Folktale Week 2024 – Gate

Inspired by the prompts from #FolktaleWeek2024, I set out to create a series of illustrations exploring owls and the folklore that surrounds them. This project led me to research different owl species and respond to each one through painting, pairing each image with an original acrostic poem. These poems add a layer of narrative and symbolism, deepening the storytelling behind each piece.

The piece shown here is the second in the series, created in response to the prompt Gate, and features a barn owl sitting proudly on a gate

Guardian of the tower,

Alert to all who near,

This curse, this honour, is his alone

Echoes, year on year.
